Chronic Pain & the Top 12 Benefits of Walking

It's spring and it's time to celebrate the season with an exercise that had numerous health benefits.

What am I talking about?

Walking, of course.

Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, my wife and I took our puppy for a walk. Even though it’s not officially spring yet, it felt like spring. The temperature was perfect. Flowering trees were blooming and we could smell their blossoms. The swish sound of sprinklers surrounded us. People working in their yards waved to us. In short, it felt good to get out and exercise.

Although walking is indisputably exercise, I don’t think of it that way. Maybe I categorize it separately because, I hate to admit this, exercise is not always enjoyable. Walking is different though because walking is enjoyable. Even better, numerous studies show that walking has many health benefits. Here are the top twelve.

1. Walkers live longer.

2. Walking strengthens your heart.

3. Walking can improve low back pain.

4. Walking helps you maintain your weight.

5. Walking is easy on the joints and reduces joint pain.

6. Walking helps your brain stay sharp.

7. Walking reduces stress.

8. Walking can boost immune function.

9. Walking can improve mindfulness.

10. Walking increases your energy.

11. Walking helps prevent diabetes.

12.Walking is fun!
