Did you know that some foods might help fight the inflammation that leads to pain?
February is cardiac awareness month. It's also the month in which we celebrate Valentine’s Day. Are you seeing the theme? Lets just say it--February is heart month.
Although Valentine’s Day is considered a romantic holiday, i think we should take back the holiday for everyone. Why should couples get a monopoly on love? Valentine’s Day should be the day where we nurture ourselves by adopting healthy habits for a strong heart and body.
So what is the best way to celebrate February? How can we contribute to the healthiness of our hearts while celebrating the sweetness of the day?
Let's start with strawberries. Have you ever noticed that a strawberry resembles a heart? It may be nature's way of signaling something scientists are now realizing. Strawberries are actually good for our hearts.
So what does this all have to do with pain? More than you think. Surprisingly strawberries may also help alleviate or prevent some forms of chronic pain. Strawberries have something called flavonoids. These are powerful antioxidants which recent studies indicate may combat the inflammation that leads to pain. Some studies suggest that these antioxidants are also a powerful weapon against cancer. Dark chocolate also has flavonoids with the same good effects.
Just think of the benefits you'll get from combining the two. Isn’t it great to know that you can eat something that tastes sinfully rich and decadent yet is also healthy. It doesn’t always have to be fish oil and wheat grass.
Give yourself a gift this February. Make yourself feel better. Take two chocolate strawberries. We're here if you need us.
